Precast with the look of stone and terrazzo

Honing and polishing grind the concrete surface back to reveal the aggregate in cross-section. The result is a smooth, refined, terrazzo-like finish, the most premium look precast can offer.

Honed finishes are versatile enough for whole façades, stairs and landscapes. Polished finishes are typically reserved for features that deserve to stand out.

Honed

  • Honed matte – typically used for precast stair treads and landings, and in landscaping, where a smooth but non-glossy surface is needed.
  • Honed satin – a soft sheen, typically used for exterior walls across a wide range of buildings.

Honed surfaces are sealed to protect the concrete and prevent staining. Grouting and densifying are optional.

Polished

The premium option, with a gloss to mirror finish that highlights entries, feature walls and signature elements. Polished surfaces are grouted, densified and sealed to protect against staining.

Sheen levels

Finish Sheen Resin grit (up to)
Honed Matte 100

Aggregate exposure

  • Light – minimal exposure, giving a “salt and pepper” look with random aggregate tips showing
  • Medium – some aggregate slightly exposed at random
  • Full – the aggregate is fully exposed across the surface

Aggregate exposure level

Light Exposure (Minimum salt and pepper look exposure, tip of the aggregate can be seen at random)

Medium Exposure (Some aggregate slightly exposed at random)

Full Exposure (Fully exposed aggregate)

Choosing your finish

We recommend working through these selections in order:

  1. Concrete colour – grey or white cement, with pigment if required
  2. Aggregate – the colour combination of the stone
  3. Sheen level – matte, satin, gloss, hi-gloss or mirror
  4. Exposure level – light, medium or full

See Colours on the Finishes page.

Concrete is a natural material, so some variation in colour and aggregate is expected. See disclaimer on the Finishes page.
