Precast cores that set the pace for multi-storey buildings

In a multi-storey building, the core comes first and everything else follows. Lift shafts, stairwells and service risers are often on the critical path, and they’re also the backbone that gives the building its stability.

RAMCO precast cores are made in the factory and erected quickly on site. That gets the core up ahead of the rest of the structure, so the program isn’t held up waiting on core formwork and pours.

Core types

  • Lift cores – precast lift shaft walls, made to the tight tolerances lift installers need, with openings and cast-in items positioned to suit.
  • Stair cores – stairwell walls that can be combined with RAMCO precast stairs and landings for a complete, fast-to-install stair system. See Stairs.
  • Service cores and risers – precast walls for service shafts, plant areas and risers, with openings for services coordinated before production.
Why precast cores

  • Off the critical path – cores are made while site works continue, then erected in days rather than climbed and poured level by level.
  • Structural stability – core walls act as shear walls, providing the lateral stability the rest of the structure relies on.
  • Precision for lift installation – factory-made panels give accurate shaft dimensions and alignment, with cast-in items for lift rails and fixings positioned precisely.
  • Everything coordinated up front – 3D BIM modelling resolves openings, landing doors, embedded items, services and connections to floors and beams before production starts.
  • Built-in fire separation – concrete cores provide the fire-rated enclosure that stairs, lifts and services require.
  • Safer construction – less work at height and less formwork in confined shafts.
