Texture with real depth

Sandblasting removes the surface layer of the concrete to expose the aggregate. The result is a matte, textured finish that is deeper and more tactile than acid etching.

It brings out the natural colour of the stone while softening the overall look of the panel.

It’s a versatile finish for façades, columns, feature walls and landscape elements, where you want texture without the bold, stony look of heavy exposed aggregate.

How it’s achieved

The surface is blasted with abrasive media propelled by compressed air. Depending on the look required, the media can be:

  • granulated furnace slag
  • aluminium oxide
  • glass beads (when larger beads are used, the process is known as bead blasting)

Blasting is done after the concrete has gained strength, so the aggregate is exposed cleanly and evenly.

From smooth to coarse

Blasting depth can be adjusted to suit the design:

  • Light – a fine, smooth matte texture with just a hint of aggregate
  • Medium – a coarser texture, with the aggregate clearly exposed

The aggregate selection and the colour of the cement matrix have a big influence on the final look. See Colours on the Finishes page.

Concrete is a natural material, so some variation in colour and aggregate is expected. See disclaimer on the Finishes page.
